King of winter

March 23, 1964
Town & Country Plymouth, the top stock eliminator winner, might also be the Sanders car, but I'm not sure.

The "Bad Man"

Feb. 2, 1964
My first trip to a drag strip was in 1963, at Hixson, Tenn., run by the Brainerd Optimist Club, and I saw Russell Lee race. That year he was driving a '63 406 Ford, called "Great Vigah." His season-long nemesis was a '63 Plymouth driven by Max Wallace. I can't remember who won that night, but I would  bet the Plymouth did. Early in 1963, we were returning from a trip to Atlanta, and ran into Wallace testing his car on a north Georgia road.

"Bad News"

Jan. 26, 1964, Blue Ridge, Ga.
Reece Gibbs won lots of races across north Georgia in the 1960s. This car was a 1962 Ford Galaxie first run by Phil Bonner. Gibbs was at least the third owner of the car, known as Bad News by this time, and raced it into 1965. His son, Paul Gibbs, races today in pro modified, and you can follow his racing at a sister page to this one -- www.cudabeast.blogspot.com

Altered stocks?

Jan. 17, 1964, Colton, Calif.
Not sure what that classification is, but it wasn't as fast as the regular super stock winner.
