Segregated drags
Sept. 7, 1962
Found this item from Aug. 16, 1962, in a column in a Gastonia newspaper. Wally McGinty continued to race some he was in school. We'll catch up with him in later years.

Mid-South mecca

Lots of great races at this place. Was a ghost track for a while, now bulldozed for development. There is an excellent website dedicated to this track, www.lakelandraceway.com

Village gossip
Yes, Village Gossip is the title of the Santa Fe Daily New Mexican column in which this item was buried, along with news of families traveling, having visitors, wearing new hats to church, etc. on Sept. 17, 1962.
Sort of like this, from a 1963 North Carolina newspaper:
I would loved to have seen races at Fayetteville. Wish I could find pictures of it. Most all of what I know is in Larry Davis' great book "Super Stock: Drag Racing the Family Sedan." Piedmont is another NC classic.

Raven Rock was the home track of famed Portsmouth-based rail pilot Gordon Collett. There is old film online of him running there. The photo at the end (from crudbro, on an online forum), is of the track in 1994, shortly before it was bulldozed.
