Time slips

No drag racing has surpassed the super stock and factory experimental racing of the 1960s, and for me the Southern "run what you brung" style was its epitome.

This is a look back at that era through newspapers. You will see race ads and race coverage -- more advance stories than results, from 1962-66 or 1967 -- yes, some of the early funny cars, too (AWBs, no floppers), and anything else drag-related that has interest.

The tracks will be familiar and obscure. The cars and drivers will be some of the era's famous names, as well as local guys who raced out of the national spotlight.
